Get started

Fabric is a server-side communications API for SMS and email. The fastest path is to create an application, use its sandbox key, and send a published message definition by key.

Application

The boundary that owns API keys, environments, messages, and webhook endpoints.

Environment

Every application has isolated sandbox and live activity. A key’s prefix selects the environment.

Message definition

A versioned SMS or email template addressed by a stable key such as welcome.otp.

Delivery

One send attempt, its state, rendered preview, cost, and webhook history.

Prefix Environment Recipients Wallet
sk_test_ Sandbox Virtual only No real charge
sk_live_ Live Real provider delivery Funds required

The SDK infers the environment from the key prefix. It rejects any other secret-key format before making a network request.

  1. Create an application. In the Fabric dashboard, create the application that will own this integration.
  2. Create a sandbox key. Copy it once and store it in your server-side secret manager as FABRIC_API_KEY.
  3. Publish a message definition. Give it a stable key and add the variables your application will supply.
  4. Send from your server. Follow the Node.js quickstart.
  5. Add a webhook. Treat the signed terminal event as the source of truth for delivery.
